Site history, specs, and general information

I took the name "ecomancer" from the cartoon The Pirates of Dark Water. An ecomancer has the ability to control nature; Tula, the main female character and one I have a lot of admiration for, is one. (Incidentally, ecomancers come from the island of Andorus, which is my primary online screen name.) I'm also fascinated by the natural world, and enjoy all things magical and mystical, so it was fitting.

This site started as Sailor Andorus's Anime Links on GeoCities the summer of 1996, and slowly grew and evolved, taking on the name Andorus's Hideaway, moving to Xoom and then to Tripod, before I finally opted for paid hosting and my own domain, to have my own "safe haven" and an individualized "niche" online to do my own thing without space/advertising restraints. I bought ecomancer.net via Dotster and signed up for hosting with Web Site Source, on January 7, 2002. I switched hosts to Myacen on May 31/June 1, 2002, and hosted with them until August 28, 2004, when, thanks to a friend's recommendation, I switched to JaguarPC, and moved my domains from Dotster to GoDaddy.

This layout features a photo of mine, taken while on a walk through my town along the Yoshinogawa, the longest river in the prefecture. I'm now living in Tokushima Prefecture on Shikoku, in the inaka of Japan, in a true hideaway if ever I saw one! The layout uses Perpetua for the graphics and Verdana and Georgia for the text, as well as MS Gothic's Japanese lettering. It's constructed in standards-compliant CSS and XHTML, with a touch of JavaScript, and should work reasonably in recent versions of Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer.
