Name
I am Aliya Maria Baptista. And no, I’m not Brazilian or Portugese, as most think at first.
I am from Mumbai, India. My work experience ranges from television production to online
writing and content management, and interaction design.
Student
I am currently a first year graduate student at Carnegie Mellon’s Masters of Design,
Interaction Design program. I will be graduating in May 2011.
Interaction Designer
I love what I do as an Interaction Designer because I am constantly challenged while
problem solving. My aim has always been to improve peoples lives with design thinking.
I like to apply design thinking to human beings, services or tangible personal and
non-personal products.
Skills
I employ persona and scenario building, user observations and interviews, wireframing,
rapid prototyping, walkthroughs, video sketching, competitive analysis and research synthesis
in my interaction design process.
The Studio
I love working in a studio environment, with whiteboards, sketch paper, softboards and plenty
of Sharpie markers to ideate with. You can find me at the graduate studio at almost any time of
the day, on any day of the week.
Current cool project
Currently, I’m working on a team to develop a mobile interface that will use
Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) technology and rider input in order to provide low-cost
and accurate commuter data. This will provide public bus commuters with access to
information about where their bus is, and how long it will take to get to the stop.
The biggest challenge for us currently is figuring out how we can motivate users
to input information.
